Fiduciary in all Things (FIAT): An Economic Debate

Missed my first Substack LIVE with George Kinder? Here's the replay.

Thanks to all who tuned in for my first Substack LIVE event with the legendary

. We took opposing sides on the debate as to whether a Fiduciary in all Things (FIAT) standard can work for corporations. I was an uncompromising capitalist, and George made a convincing case that adding a fiduciary standard enhances modern capitalism.

We covered shareholder sanctity, the profit motive, negative (and positive) externalities to scale, wealth inequality, and the importance of truth, which could be an entire topic for a future LIVE on its own.

At one point, my phone went rogue and shut down, but George handled it beautifully until I was able to reconnect. Despite that technical snafu, I am in awe that we can broadcast live to an audience on opposite sides of the globe. George is currently in London, and I am in the mountains of western North Carolina.

A very engaged audience submitted wonderful thoughts and questions. You can watch the replay in its 36 minute entirety below. George and I want to continue these debates in a series on FIAT. Perhaps I can brush up on my proper debating skills. As I mentioned in the video, I never joined the debate team in high school, so this was a first for me.

I am excited to announce that George will speak at Future Proof Festival next month in Huntington Beach. If you are a financial advisor or member of the wealth management ecosystem, it is not too late to register. I hope to see you there - September 7 -10, 2025.
